Keisuke Kagetsu

B. 1998 in Kagoshima, and based in Tokyo, Japan

Keisuke Kagetsu is an artist with a perspective that carefully captures the beauty and poetry hidden in everyday life. He considers the entire process of creating his works, from choosing materials, making wooden frames, stretching cloth, applying Japanese paper, drawing delicate lines with colored pencils, and adjusting the exhibition space, as a "stroke" of his own hand, and he does it all consistently and with a focus on manual work. At the root of his creative process is an eye that observes and aesthetically reinterprets the relationship between matter and material, people and people, and time and memory, using the word "Tonari" as a guide. With each brushstroke, he aims to visualize the delicate resonance of "things that connect" in his works through repeated dialogue with materials and space. He is building a quiet and deep world of work that questions the sensitivity to nature and beauty that is being lost in modern society and offers a new perspective to the viewer.
